A vivarium (Latin, literally for "place of life"; plural: vivaria or vivariums) is a usually enclosed area for keeping and raising animals or plants for observation or research. Often, a portion of the ecosystem for a particular species is simulated on a smaller scale, with controls for environmental conditions. A vivarium may be small enough to sit on a desk or table, such as a terrarium or an aquarium, or may be a very large structure, possibly outdoors. Large vivaria, particularly those holding organisms capable of flight, typically include some sort of a dual-door mechanism such as a sally port for entry and exit, so that the outer door can be closed to prevent escape before the inner door is opened. I have a 23 gallon vivarium (30x12x18inches) and want to know how many poison arrow frogs I could keep in it. Also, can you keep similarly sized different species of poison arrow frog in the same tank? Thanks. Asked by badchippy - Wed Aug 20 04:00:30 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments A. Don't mix species of PAFs... this can lead to territorial issues... once you know which type you want, you can research to see how much space they require... also there may be laws forbidding ownership, or requiring permits for poisonous animals (check with local pet dealers and city hall) Answered by janella marie - Wed Aug 20 11:20:51 2008 Is cork tile safe to cover a heat mat with in a wooden vivarium to protect my Mexican king snake from burns?
Q. Should I also put something between the base of the wooden vivarium and the heat mat? I also use a 40 watt heat bulb and am just trying to raise the temperature slightly. Asked by Karnage125 - Tue Oct 21 21:38:29 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It may be best to use your heat lamp as your only source to heat your snake's cage. Wood, cork and a heating pad could be a fire waiting to happen. Get yourself a higher wattage bulb and try not to use a heating pad till you can get a terrarium that can handle one safely Answered by johnny - Tue Oct 21 22:25:42 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Vivarium" |
