An aquarium (plural aquariums or aquaria) is a vivarium consisting of at least one transparent side in which water-dwelling plants or animals are kept. Fishkeepers use aquaria to keep fish, invertebrates, amphibians, marine mammals, turtles, and aquatic plants. The term combines the Latin root aqua, meaning water, with the suffix -arium, meaning "a place for relating to". An aquarist owns fish or maintains an aquarium, typically constructed of glass or high strength acrylic plastic. Cuboid aquaria are also known as fish tanks or simply tanks, while bowl-shaped aquaria are also known as fish bowls. Size can range from a small glass bowl to immense public aquaria. Specialized equipment maintains appropriate water quality and other characteristics suitable for the aquarium's residents. From Wikipedia under the

From Google Video Search: "fish and aquaria" What's the best way to set up a 75 gallon fish aquarium? Q. I recently bought a 75 gal tank that I'm going to upgrade to soon. I have all the extra essentials like the filter, heater, thermometer, etc. I just wanted to know what the best method is for setting this tank up and moving my current fish in. Asked by Bob R - Wed Jan 28 22:58:57 2009 - Fish - 3 Answers - Comments A. Read the instructions on how to set it up. then leave it running for at least 24 hours. then once you are ready to move in your fish put them in a plastic bag and leave the floating in the top for about 20 minutes so they can adjust to the temp. Answered by Tessacle - Wed Jan 28 23:04:05 2009 Will I have to recycle my fish aquarium everytime I change the filter media?
Q. working on cycling my 10 gal. aquarium without fish and I was wondering since the beneficial bacteria mostly grow in the filter media when it is time to change it will I need to expect an ammonia/nitrite spike as I did when I first cycled it or will there be enough in the aquarium itself to keep my fish healthy? This is why its recommended to do filter maintenance on a different day than a water change, so the risk of removing too much of those bacteria colonies is lower. If it is a carbon cartridge, you would be doing more harm than good by continually rinsing it and leaving it in the filter, where it will eventually begin to leech dissolved pollutants back into your water. If it is just a plain sponge and does not contain carbon, just rinse it in some old aquarium water and don't change it. You don't need to cut anything in half. When you say it out loud, it theoretically sounds like too much good bacteria would be removed by changing a filter cartridge, but in my experience, an… [cont.] Answered by Iliana M - Mon Aug 8 18:07:51 2011 From Yahoo Answer Search: "fish and aquaria" |
